Wine country, an hour and a half to two hours from Tbilisi. The table is the point here: a long dinner among the vines, with wine poured where it was made.
Instead of the usual welcome drink, guests are taken into the marani — the room where wine matures in clay qvevri buried underground — and given a taste of what stands under their feet. Then everyone sits at one long table, assembled between the rows of vines.
At many venues the hall and the terrace sit side by side, so rain changes not the plan but only where dinner happens. A house with a vineyard or an open courtyard under trees works the same way: moving the evening indoors takes minutes.
Kakheti is for couples who care more about the table than the city: guests sitting long, wine that is local, toasts that are not short. If the mountain view or a short drive matters more, look at Kazbegi or Tbilisi.
